Expertise

GLG has provided top-quality marine and waterfront engineering services to federal government agencies for over 25 years. Since our first US Navy contract award in 1994, and our first US Coast Guard contract award in 1995, GLG has continued to support both entities through subsequent contract awards that have enabled us to build the in-depth institutional knowledge needed to ensure the consistent delivery of engineering excellence. We strive to not only complete assigned task orders but to truly partner with our clients and seek opportunities to improve systems and processes and add value. The success of this approach is demonstrated by the many Exceptional performance assessments by our federal government clients.
GLG has a great deal of experience designing institutional quality facilities for research vessels and academic programs, dating back to 1994. Our engineers have recent, in-depth knowledge and familiarity with the specific design requirements to accommodate coastal/offshore research, laboratory research, and educational programs.
GLG’s team has provided engineering services for academic research institutions such as Maine Maritime, US Coast Guard Academy, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, US Naval Academy, University of Maine Darling Marine Center, University of Rhode Island Narragansett Bay Campus, University of New Hampshire, and many others.
GLG has unparalleled expertise inspecting and designing waterfront and dry-docking facilities at government and private shipyards across the country. GLG performs services such as condition surveys, certification, facility upgrades, design of repairs, structural analysis, material sampling and testing, tunnel and pump well inspections, environmental regulatory approvals, and construction support services for various shipyard waterfront facilities, including dry docks, crane rails, cradle zones, and fitting out piers.
Our team has specialized knowledge of shipyard facilities for the dry docking and fitting out of vessels. Our focus is to complete inspections and phased designs to allow shipyards to stay operational through the duration of our projects. This often requires construction to be phased around vessel dockings and other mission-critical work. Our role is to support the shipyard in efficiently overhauling vessels.
GLG has extensive experience inspecting and designing shoreline and offshore aids to navigation (ATON) towers for the US Coast Guard and private clients nationwide. We have designed over 60 towers, with a range of environmental conditions including ice, design waves exceeding 20 feet and strong winds and currents. Our towers leverage techniques that improve durability and expedite construction. This includes specialized processes and leveraging prefabrication and templated structures. Additionally, GLG has provided construction administration services for the replacement of numerous individual US Coast Guard ATON towers.
GLG has been providing waterfront engineering services for Port Authorities and cargo terminal owners for decades. Our engineers have expertise in liquid and bulk cargo facilities, commercial fishing piers, marinas, cruise terminals, and other waterfront facilities. Services include material handling improvements by way of marine structural design, waterfront inspection services, 3D modeling, planning studies, and construction support services.
